Program Description

The spine is like a tree. It contains nerve branches that send pain and other signals between the body and the brain. When a strong wind comes, a branch can break, or it can bend and come back to center.

The spine is a work in progress. With increasing emphasis on activities dominated by brain and sitting, the spine loses its alignment and flexibility. It takes a long time to develop back and neck pain. Soon it becomes a way of life.

But the spine can be re-balanced and energized through movement.

Seven experts will each demonstrate, through experiential exercises and live demonstration, the way that they utilize movement to prevent and alleviate back and neck pain. The seven movement approaches include the Alexander Technique, Dance/Movement Therapy, Feldenkrais, Iyengar Yoga, Physical Therapy, Pilates, and Qigong/Tai Chi. This will be followed by a question and answer session.

This program is for those who are willing to work on themselves, for those who want to understand how they can contribute to their own pain and healing.
