"It's like going back to the 60's and early 70's!!!!"
The Ojai Classic Rock Festival returns by popular demand for a fourth season to the intimate Libbey Bowl, located downtown Ojai in the center of tree-packed Libbey park. Ojai Rock Fest '08 on Saturday July 12 will be a continuation of a fan-favorite series of all-day tie-dyed music extravaganzas, presenting an exciting 10 hours of live entertainment, food and merchandise vendors, special guest appearances, all topped off with positive vibrations from all.
The music begins promptly at noon with Rolling Stones clones 'Hollywood Stones', who Eric Burdon (The Animals, War) called a "Bloody time machine, just like The Stones". Recently reunited funky jam aficionados 'Freshly Baked' are always a crowd pleaser with their special blend of humor and jam rock. Five decades of hits by the legendary Johnny Cash and June Carter are highlighted in masterful detail by 'The Mighty Cash Cats', a Ventura County based group that plays to rave reviews wherever they perform. Next in the line up, Orange County tribute pros RetroTull recreate with precision the distinctive vocal style and lead flute work of Ian Anderson and 60's/70's progressive rock band Jethro Tull.
A mid-day rare performance by the legendary Jackie Lomax and his band will provide an extra special treat for Ojai Rock Fest '08 attendees. Lomax has been called "One of the best white R&B/soul voices and songwriters to have come out of the sixties and seventies". George Harrison wrote a song called "Sour Milk Sea" for the Liverpool rocker, and was the producer for Jackie's Apple Records release "Is this what you want?". The Apple vinyl featured an all-star cast of band members including Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Jeff Beck, Leon Russell and more!
Led Zeppelin tribute band MissLed captivates even the most die-hard Zep fans with the booming vocals of "Miss Robert Plant" Marissa Mendenhall, busting out powerful renditions of early Zeppelin classics. The festival wraps up with Cubensis, southern California's longest running tribute band, who for 21 years have skillfully reproduced the unique and eclectic style of live Grateful Dead.
A vendor's faire offering a collection of handmade goods, tie-dyes, clothing, jewelry, and food will provide a unique shopping experience for attendees throughout the festival. Doug Bounsall, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle player formerly with bluegrass legends The Dillards, local Ojai singer/songwriter Al Westcott, and Janis Joplin impersonator Lori-An Ryan are scheduled to perform special sets during intermissions. Festival attendees are invited to bring percussion instruments and participate in an open "drum circle" during the day.
50% of all net proceeds from the Ojai Rock Fest '08 will go to the Ojai Performing Arts Theater (OPAT) and the Easter Seals Tri-Counties Aquatics Center.
