Hello everyone
I have to thank all of you for your incredible response to our email blast. I was overwhelmed.
Two individuals, Jaya McNamee of Ojai and Maria Derminasian of Fresno, have stepped forward and asked for the horses. They are in the process of discussing the particulars with the appropriate people. In case one or both of them change their minds, Kim Reynolds at Painted Spirit Ranch has told us she will take them all and find homes for them from her place. There are a couple of others who thought they might be able to help find homes, but the word I have is that these horses have to leave this week, so time is of the essence.
I can't tell you how grateful I am for your care and concern. There are so many horses in this area that need rescue it breaks my heart. I know we cannot help all of them, but when we are asked to intercede, we cannot deny our duty to do all we can.
Yesterday I had just left a feed store in Fresno where a woman was talking to the cashier about opening up a slaughterhouse in Fresno there were so many unwanted horses here. I was so shocked at her comment it took everything I had not to respond. I left that store and drove to Bird Feed in the Orange Cove area where I met Richard who was talking about helping these Belgians. The store owner said "this is the rescue lady from Squaw Valley" the one we were just telling you about" ..maybe she can help...and the rest happened spontaneously. I cannot help but reflect on the irony...the timing...and the opportunity to save rather than destroy.
I wish you all the blessings that continue to come to those of us who give horses a voice, give them a future, give them the respect they are due.
I will let you know how this scenario ends...
