A leading optical software and optical engineering services company has an opening for a Software Chief Engineer.
In this position, you will be the technical expert for the company’s software. You will also maintain a broad understanding of all products and technologies across the business and ensure that the best available technologies and problem solving techniques are applied to product development initiatives.
The successful candidate must have comprehensive experience in the successful planning, design, engineering, delivery, and implementation of complex, integrated engineering software applications. Job performance will be measured on tangible reduction of development schedules without compromise to product quality.
Responsibilities:
o. Identifies important plausible development assumptions that may be wrong and leads the team to check these assumptions and change course if appropriate to help minimize total development schedule and cost
o. Works directly with customers, Product Marketing and the Software Development team to drive product architecture and advanced technology planning
o. Responsible for the approval of technical designs in the Conceptual, Feasibility and Final Design stages
o. Works with the Software Quality organization to provide solutions for engineering problems by analyzing trends and root causes, and proposing new procedures or modifications
o. Drives functional compliance with ORA standard engineering practices and project management processes
o. Mentors and coaches product development team in challenging and testing assumptions to determine best solution to problems and to deliver greatest value to customers
o. Mentors and coaches product development team in using state-of-the-art tools and development practices
o. Guides the technology investment process working with R&D managers and ensuring industry leading technologies and solutions are driven and delivered
The ideal candidate:
o. Has excellent analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills in a fast paced, high change matrixed environment
o. Is a passionate leader with a keen ability to identify potential technology risks and exposures for the business
o. Is a strategic planner and global thinker with ability to drive change across a global business, products and industry
o. Has practical program experience with New Product Introduction program cycles
Requirements:
o. 15+ years progressive experience in software engineering (Required)
o. 7+ years experience in leadership within a software development or research environment (Required)
o. Demonstrated experience as a Chief Engineer or similar level role in a multi-product global technology business (Required)
o. Demonstrated experience reducing development schedules without compromise to product quality (Required)
o. Demonstrated ability to influence divergent interests, move agendas forward and serve as a catalyst for change across multiple groups (Required)
o. Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Software Engineering or a related field (Required)
o. Experience with problem analysis methodologies such as Kepner-Tregoe (KT) is highly desired
o. Experience in CAD/CAE/3D modeling a major plus
