Here's the overview: Basically, we're getting ready to drive our 1978 GMC Motorhome cross-country to Cooperative Motorworks in Orlando FL, where they specialize in modernizing GMC RVs, and where we're planning on doing most of the interior refurbs, as well as a possible fuel conversion from gasoline to propane. We don't need to all-out PAINT the RV before we go, but its currently half-sanded down for paint and looks pretty bad... like a target for the highway patrol! So at least evening out the sanding, and probably a single coat of grey primer would do the trick.... then probably do the rest of the job when we get back in the spring...
Where: on-site at our own garage, in Silverlake, Los Angeles 90026
(but might consider an alternate location of your devising...)
When: preferably the first 2 weeks of February for the most essential jobs, and further into Feb for additional projects, if things are going well. Also, some of these jobs could be ongoing, since we have 2 RVs and are based in Los Angeles...
there is definitely constant maintenance work available!
MUST have your own car, cellphone and be dependable...
Form of PAY: based on experience and productivity, open to negotiation...
suggesting a combination of hourly plus finished-product bonus
but also open to either strict hourly or all-out contractual fee (in which case, referrals please!)
We need to hire at least 2 of the following people, for a minimum 1 to 2 weeks, possibly one month:
- EXPERIENCED in bodywork, bondo, fiberglass, paint-prep and primer, also re-attaching bumpers and pop-riveting body parts back together
- a willing ASSISTANT, parts-getter (driver) or INTERN, for basic sanding and odd jobs, (and learn a LOT about RVs and solar energy)... paying approx $8/hr
- EXPERIENCED MECHANIC for work on tune-up (8 cylinder, gasoline). Also need help with steering, suspension, cooling system. We have a good amount of the tools necessary, like a 3 ton floor jack, jack stands, sockets.
We're pretty pleased with the quality of work they do at Cooperative Motorworks, as far as the interior goes..., but hey, its quite an expedition to Florida, only half justified by the cool "road-trip" factor... So before we'd take off on such a trip, if there are any local craftsmen out there with a space-ship vision of how the interior of an RV-studio should look... any innovative designers, with the skills to deliver, well please contact me ASAP! Here's what we're looking for:
- RV HANDYMAN for interior work, experienced carpenter (with own tools), for doing headliner, cabinet making, interior painting, finishing, possibly wiring and/or flush-mounting LED lighting, and lots of misc finishing work, from the kitchen to the ultra-ergonomics of the dining area, to the actual music studio workspaces...
- DESIGNER / METALWORKER / WELDER who can come up with the ultimate way to mount move-able solar panels with a bit of curbside "bling" factor. Also, possibly incorporate into this design a storage pod on the roof....
- Also eventually looking for help with exterior graphics, after the paintjob. We have 2 RVs, and we'll want them to compliment each other stylistically... and why??
Eklektro Karavan is gearing up for another run this summer, so we're soon going to be advertising for mobile crew; ideally electronic musicians who can double as studio techs.... or maybe a musician or programmer who can double as a mechanic and driver... space is limited onboard, so you get the picture. And if we've got a good match, then we could surely talk more long-term, salary or share-membership... in which case Eklektro Solar-Sonic welcomes you aboard!
Meanwhile, for the February's work mission: CASH-in-hand reimbursement
and/or serious Apple Mac computer BARTER potential if you're interested...
(see the Laptop-Swap tribe, where i'm the moderator)
Thanks for reading... any referrals appreciated!
