What happened?
Come on, I expected more stoytelling from miss taymore. A visual feast is only good if you can buy into it. I wasn't given a good feeling of context, so nothing seemed to make sense. It just felt disjointed and the characters lacked depth. I really only stayed for the last hours to listen to the music. - Erica Diane Sword , posted 10/07/07

Upon further review...
Admittedly, I totally fall for anything sentimental and/or schmaltzy. However, Ms. Taymor's depiction of the 60's is somewhat haplessly naive. Some of the musical segues are manipulative and heavy-handed, while others reek of the Peter Greenaway school for Lovely Visuals. To be fair, the dance sequences showed some innovation. Bono and Selma Hayek are peculiar diversions, though Eddie Izzard is a scene-stealer. Even with that said, I managed to well up at the end and ultimately bought into the character’s treacle. I think one can't be too critical of this film, but rather let it be the mirthful escape that it represents. Wait till the DVD to make up your own mind. - Chadland , posted 10/11/07

This is not the Julie Taymor I love
Had to say- I really disliked this movie. It was disconnected and soulless, with no depth of characterization, and few original interpretations of songs. The only interesting scenes were the ones that possessed clearly imaginative "julie taymor-esque" visuals- such as the army draft and the Eddie Izzard carnival. Otherwise, it was just one huge, long, boring disappointment. - Allison , posted 10/07/07

yes, it's one of the better movies
loved the themes ... zany and funny ... loved the weaving of historical characters but not making it too concrete ... very very creative ... got a little slow during the middle ... but it was worth the $11 bucks i paid for my little sister and myself to see it ... visually stimulating ... 9 out of 10 - Jah ॐ Tree , posted 09/29/07
