Sure they're not a conglomerate, but 3 locations is hardly an indie record store. Like any other store that sells used records, they occasionally have a few gems in the bins, but otherwise the place is generally pretty over-priced. They carry a wide assortment of things I have no interest in, and every single time I've been to each of the three locations the help all had a holier-than-thou attitude (relax kids, you're just clerks in a record store - and you don't even know that much about music). Reminds me of Virgin Megastore that hasn't been cleaned in ages, and a less helpful staff. - Trilo , posted 12/13/06 |

but it makes me sad that every other record store in los angeles is going out of business because of them. - Jebus , posted 10/31/06 |

I drove to Hollywood to sell my CDs since they advertised that they are a major buyer. After waiting in line for a while, the store would only buy 13 of my 150 CDs! I understand the demand for my late 90's (before mp3s) might not be high, but I was expecting to sell them for at least a dollar each - Unsubscribed , posted 02/04/06 |

I love how you can get lost in the store for hours. The prices can't be beat for both new and used music. Sometimes you can even find a gem in the bargain discount section. You can listen to full albums in-store. They also have a decent selection of eclectic used DVD's. - Julie , posted 11/09/05 |

Both the used and new music prices are low. You can also make a pretty decent amount by selling your old CDs to Amoeba. Also, this place has the largest music selection I've ever come across in my travels. - Nikki , posted 10/02/05 |

Before they opened this shop, I had to go all the way to San Francisco to find this stuff. I don't think I've ever walked out of there spending less than 100 dollars. I could spend a whole day just going through the electronica cds... - Unsubscribed , posted 07/21/05 |

What I love about Amoeba is how you can tell everyone shopping in there and working in there is insane for their music. Whether it's the guy in black leather in the DEATH METAL section or the little pack of USC sorority sisters digging through used Cranberries CDs, everyone is having a great time. (But the DVD prices, both new and used, suck. Suck, do you hear me?!) - Sherrie , posted 06/17/05 |

Native Californian, born and raised in Los Angeles. Never have I been to such an amazing record store. There is something for everyone here. New, used, dance, electronica, rock, experimental, import, domestic, vinyl and CD. Best prices in town with the most curtious staff I have ever delt with (The musically challenged need not be afraid). And let's not forget the used counter that gives great rates for used vinyl, tapes, DVD's and CD's. If you love music and visit this store, plan on that trip taking up most of your day. - Unsubscribed , posted 05/18/05 |

Better selection for obscure artists than any other store. - Jason's , posted 03/27/05 |

And that's saying something. Like online stores, you don't have the listening stations or the personality of smaller, more manageable stores, but you have a big freaking catalog you can flip through. - justin , posted 01/12/05 |

& they say it about borders, but nobody will say it about amoeba. perhaps not -directly- across the street, but if one faces it, this was set down so close to aron's (which was a local institution) that it has almost destroyed their business. bad form, i think. yeah, they have a lot of great things, but yeah, you can also download, if you want, most of what they have. i like their book section, largely b/c the person who runs it knows about as much re how to price books as the good people at aron's, but i really felt hit in the solar plexus when they moved in. they can have what once was just the cinerama dome traffic, sure. but i still think there is something stinking about their product placement, their product being themselves. what is -in- the store is fine. i am glad, at least, that they didnt eat up poo-bahs, which is, i think, actually the best record store left in los angeles, bar none, even though it is technically in pasadena. atmosphere & street cred count. - °º¤ø edi ø¤º° , posted 12/30/04 |

I've been known to carry armloads of used electronica cd's out of that store. I espescially like the one on Haight St. - jg , posted 12/28/04 |

It's like crack, but much much better. I now have my paychecks deposited directly to Amobea:) - Unsubscribed , posted 12/13/04 |

i love this record store too. but it's unfortunate there is no try-before-you-buy policy for the electronic music. it does affect my shopping since i'm used to making comparisons of records at the store by listening. - Paul , posted 12/12/04 |

I saw Snow Patrol play there a few months ago, and they were great. I love Amoeba, there are so many CD's and I always end up spending way too much money than I should when I go there... - Lush.i.ous , posted 12/10/04 |

When people say Amoeba has everything, that's not an exaggeration; that's an understatement. Hundreds of thousands of new and used CD's of all your favorite artists, whether they are the biggest bands of today, the latest trendy indie band, or the most obscure of the obscure. Amoeba has sections for genres you probably didn't even know existed. Oh, and let's not forget the best selection of vinyl in the world. - Frank , posted 12/10/04 |

Anything you want is there and then some. They also have some cool in store concerts. - Zipporah , posted 11/02/04 |

I love Amoeba Music. I've wandered into the one in San Francisco (but haven't been into the original in Berkeley), and both the S.F. one and the one on Sunset make me silly. I can't go there, because I will spend money. Lots of it. Hard to avoid since I live nearby... - Polarbeast , posted 08/30/04 |

it's the biggest record store in the country. it's the only place you ever need to look for anything music, from the billboard 100 to the most obscure record you can think of. there are 2 floors of wall to wall music... there are listening stations for you to try out the cd before you buy... there are used dvds, used cds/vinyl... posters, t-shirts.. anything to do with music. plus, there are instore performances by your favorite artists... even big name bands that have sold out arena gigs. GO NOW! - may-may , posted 08/30/04 |
