New Fav Reasonably Priced Sushi
This is a new favorite of mine. There are so many really fantastic sushi restaurants in LA, I could probably write about a new one every day, but I will only write about 2 for now... this one and my other all time fav, The Hump. I discovered this place recently with a couple of girlfriends quite by accident. We headed out for a casual dinner at the restaurant next door only to arrive and find that it had closed down... so we stumbled in here instead. I must say that I was not disappointed in the least, in fact I have a new local favorite! The place is small, only about 6 tables or so plus the sushi bar. The atmosphere is nice, but nothing extraordinary to talk about. The food on the other hand is exceptionally good and very reasonably priced. Yet, what makes the place special in my opinon, are the sushi chefs. They are friendly, nice and not at all snobby. They won't look down at you for ordering the CA roll or spicy tuna as some places might. They also welcome you to have fun (i.e. doing sake bombs). And, even better... the dessert menu features sake jello shots with a slice of cheesecake. I love this place! My girlfriends and I had such a great time there that when I told my boyfriend all about it, he insisted on taking me back there for a special date 2 nights later. We had an amazing time there as well and, in fact, he said that it was his favorite out-to-dinner experience with me yet (after 16 months). Joshua was our sushi chef both of these nights and he is a total riot. If he's there, ask to sit with him and you won't be disappointed. Dinner, including several rounds of sake and beer both times amounted to about $40 per person (including tip). To sum up, this restaurant has amazingly fresh and inventive food without snobby attitudes or "strict" rules all for a very reasonable price.
