cool little online organizational tool
my ex turned me onto this site that's really simple to use and helps me keep of several different kinds of lists and projects organized in one place, all online so you can access it from any computer. I love it cuz you can make pages and lists for anything you can think of (and add pictures and links) which is great for me cuz I'm always looking for paper to scribble things down on when I'm online and struck by inspiration, and of course later I always lose the notes that I write myself.... I set my home page to my backpack site so when I hop on the computer, I'm reminded of all those things I meant to get to earlier.
its functionality is of course, limited to being near a computer... so not so great for compiling grocery shopping lists unless you have a PDA with internet access, but a neat feature can send you text message reminders at certain times if you tell it to.
There are several tiers of accounts with different features. I started out with a free account to see if it was even useful to me (you get 5 free pages, 10 free reminders a month) and then upgraded to the $5/month account (unlimited pages, 100 reminders, image & file storage...) the most expensive account is still only $14.
here are some of my different pages:
slavekitty.backpackit.com/pub/611583 - a page I made to keep a list of all the things I want to make.
slavekitty.backpackit.com/pub/612889 - a page I made to remember all the places I like to eat on the west side and stuff.
If you check it out and you like it, make sure you sign up with this link here:
backpackit.com/
cuz they also give you credit towards your account if your friends sign up!
This is one site run by a company called 37 signals (wired mag listed them as a web 2.0 company to watch) and their other sites are pretty smart as well. Backpackit.com is designed more for personal organization - if you're let's say, coordinating a project with a group of people and you find that email is a sloppy and imperfect means of communication and you're looking for a centralized place where people can log on to access information and reply to one place, share files and keep tabs on people's progress, check out their other site called basecamp.

basecamphq.com/
again, they have a very basic free account where you can try it out with 1 project and then upgrade from there. It works if the people you're working with get on board. some people like using email only to coordinate a project, i find email is not good enough when you're dealing with more than 2 people but that's me.
