Don't go for the food!
The food is REALLY bad. The drinks are so-so. I ordered Mozzarella Cheese sticks and they gave me cold shrimp cocktail sauce... which they seemed to think was normal. We used to go here for cheap drinks and some laughs but the booze prices have gone up enough that it's not worth the trip. - Kimi , posted 01/23/08

So glad it still is around
I grew up blocks away from the other Bahooka that stood in La Puente. Though growing up we would visit both restaurants. My family adored out of the ordinary places to eat like this and I'm so glad they did. I recently started going back to this restaurant. I want to keep it around for years to come. - Rick , posted 08/19/07

bahooka forever!
one of the few remaining truely themed restaurants in so cal. the drinks are awesome, the ambience is amazing and the food is deep fried goodness(if that's your thing). my wife, son and I will ALWAYS be patrons at the Bahooka! mai tai's are sooo yummy there, well every one of their drinks is good.

oh and the best side to eat on is the bar side, where the big anchor chains come through the ceiling to the floor. fishies are everywhere, swimming around you. good times!!!! - happy camper , posted 05/23/07

A fun time in the middle of the SGV.
I grew up just a few blocks from this place and it always had a kind of mysterious allure. It seemed so hidden away behind wooden paneling and so, well, Tiki. I went to Bahooka for my 21st birthday and it was a fun time. We all drank ourselves under the table and as it happens with 21st birthday parties they served some of my younger friends! I've been back a few times with friends over the years and it's a good place to get silly. You're often hidden away from other customers so you can make a ruckus, be rude and obscene without bothering anyone. It's especially fun to go on weekday nights when the place is totally dead. A fun place to have to yourself. I recommend the atmosphere, the drinks but not the food. Unless of course you like your BLANK battered and deep fried. - Zak , posted 04/13/07

best ribs in san gabriel valley
Don't bother with anything else on the menu (foodwise - the drinks on the back are all tops in terms of tiki-themed adventures). You are here for the ribs, remember this. Or possibly just to get drunk on flaming drinks with fruit and umbrellas in them. All the crazy sunken-ship paraphenalia and aquariums filled with carrot-eating fish are all just gravy. Regardless of which path you take, ribs or tiki drinks, you will leave Bahooka's happy. - jazzy , posted 03/24/05

atmosphere only
The atmosphere is great. There aren't many places postwar polynesian theme restaurants like this left. The food is weak, as expected, and made up for only by the drinks, which are strong and sweet. Only gets a 4, because the drinks don't make up for the food. (If they tasted like Tiki Ti... I'd boost it one.) - John , posted 03/22/05

I Love This Place!
I have not been there in years, because I moved away, but I still remember the great food there, especially those ribs and sweet potatoes! Yumm!
One of these days I'll make the trip back to go there again. *JUICYJAY* - Juicy , posted 10/23/04

Best sort of cheesy fun!
Do you like fish in aquariums? If so you'll love Bahooka's. This restaurant must have over 100. In one is a big old fish named Rufus. If you're nice they let you feed him carrots. Add to that all sorts of tiki and nautical crap on every surface that isn't an aquarium. The place makes you feel like you're in the hold of a ship, or maybe like you're in a fish store. Or both. They serve huge drinks, in big mixing bowls. Some drinks come flaming. Actually, they'll serve anything flaming, if you ask. I once got a flaming salad. The staff is super friendly and I’ve never seen a place so welcoming of large parties since I was a little kid and went to Ferrell’s. Most of the food is pretty good, and the ribs are really tasty. But if you don’t like the food it’s ok, you don't care, because you're drunk! What more could you want? - Diana , posted 10/13/04

Old-School Tiki Bar & Restaurant
This somewhat crusty Tiki Bar and restaurant is located in Rosemead of all places. Worth a trip if you are hellbent on experiencing every last Tiki Bar within L.A. County limits. I do not really recommend the food, although some people go there for the ribs. The decor is classic Polynesian complete with rope netting, fish tanks and glass floats. The most unusual and theatrical drink items are the 'Flaming Bowls For Two' which are basically large salad bowls full of alcohol (with two large straws) and a flaming sterno in the middle. Admittedly I'm a complete lightweight, but I shared a Bahooka Bowl with someone and barely made it back to the car. - Mary Ellen , posted 08/30/04
