Educational Gallery Presentation Worldly Roots and Local Healers: Botánicas and Herbal Medicine in Los Angeles March 8-July 6, 2007 Center for Healthy Communities Big Sur Education Gallery The California Endowment Los Angeles A new educational installation, “Worldly Roots and Local Healers: Botánicas and Herbal Medicine in Los Angeles,” will open on March 8 for a four-month stay at The California Endowment's Center for Healthy Communities. Botánicas are part alternative health care facility and cultural gathering place, part religious supply house and spiritual center. The art exhbit will show that folk medicine is alive and well in Los Angeles and an integral part of the community’s health fabric. The exhibition—featuring herbal products, ritual objects, color photographs and video oral histories—aims to foster dialogue and potential collaboration between conventional and traditional health practitioners who serve clients with a range of spiritual beliefs. Admission and parking are free. The gallery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. For directions to the Center for Healthy Communities, please click here.
