Soul Satisfying, Yummy and Friendly
I love Daichan! I've been a fan for about two years. I had heard lots about the sushi place next door, but was the most delighted to discover the lovely atmosphere and delicious food at Daichan. The California Bowl with Brown Rice is my favorite, and for dessert i love!!! the steamed cheescake. Not your average cheescake, it's a melt in your mouth confection, comfort food at it's best. The staff is always friendly and sweet, and the restaurant is cozy and warm. The parking lot is shared with a few other businesses, but I've never had trouble. If it looks full, there is plenty of neighborhood street parking. Next door is a wonderful and friendly little nail salon, Studio Nails, the perfect lunch double feature. Do yourself a favor, a go! - Heather , posted 04/03/07

One of the best damn Japanese restaurants in the Valley, if not L.A. in my not-so-humble opinion!
One of the very few things I miss about L.A. is this restaurant! Daichan serves traditional home-style Japanese food. The owners Gary & Yuka will make you feel right at home, and the staff service is friendly and welcoming too. Dine in or take-out.

Typically most Japanese restaurants focus on either Sushi, Shabu-shabu, Teriyaki, or Udon, but at Daichan you can order most of these dishes and more. Some unique Daichan highlights are:
Salmon Steak Plate
Tsukune Bowl (fish, chicken, etc.)
Seafood soup
And if you're feeling under the weather, I highly recommend the chicken udon soup. If you have any specific food requests (vegetarian, chicken instead of beef, brown rice instead of white, etc) they will be more than happy to accommodate you. They also serve a variety of Japanese green teas & desserts like steamed cheesecake.

Decor is beautiful- every inch of the restaurant is covered by a Japanese art piece from Gary's personal collection. Somehow it is done right and avoids being claustrophobic.

Dishes are priced between $7.00-$13.oo per plate. Considering the taste and quality, this is very reasonable, and your order usually takes no more than 10 minutes or so, depending on how busy they are.

Daichan is definitely worth a trek to the SF Valley. You will forget that you fought hideous L.A. traffic to get there once you sit down and try their food!

Note: Their hours vary. Sundays they are closed, and they close for a couple hours late afternoon Mon-Fri, and then re-open for dinner. Calling ahead of time prior to arrival is strongly recommended! Parking spaces are limited, though I always got lucky. Bring change for street metered parking just in case. - Una Saafira , posted 12/31/05
