where else are ya gonna go to dance to "industrial" in LA? certainly not kontrol faktory (RIP). and fuck perversion. i utterly adore the power electronics room at bunker, but i really can't take that future pop crap they play upstairs. how can you call that industrial? it's just watered down candy trance with whiney vocals and bad lyrics. not that i have anything against trance, i love psy parties... and not that i have anything against whiney lyrics.. i mean... i do have a sizable cure and depeche mode collection... it's just that when i'm in the mood for industrial, i'm in the mood for something away from all that... something "industrial", like gristle, or neubauten, SPK, or merzbow even. well alright it's not all future pop.. they also play that- what's it called? terror-aggro-fuck-tech-ebm and that's stuff's not bad. i like wumpscut. even if it is over the top cheesy sometimes. the downstairs retro room is alright. i love all that classic skinny puppy, nitzer ebb, and 242 shit. but what ruins it is when they mix it up with top 20 "electronica" from 10 years ago. really. come on. classic puppy will always be timeless and irreplaceable, but outdated electronica will always be... well... outdated electronica. there's far more interesting rave music to be played. or howabout just dropping it all together and playing more puppy? btw, when is bunker gonna have droid behavior back? that was fucking brilliant. - pho0ka , posted 05/10/07 |

I've been going to this great industrial Mecca of nightclubs since 1999 when it was located in Downey, CA as part of a 2-club endeavor called Produqt (the other club was called Code and located towards the rear of the Hully Gully, the bar that Produqt was at). As you walked in, all you ever heard were screechings, over-the-top kick drums, weird samples from movies, and nothing but addicting beats all night from DJs Rekahoe and Franck H. Bomb, the co-proprietor of the club's name and feel. The place was dark, forboding, yet relaxing and a good place to socialize for fans of the genre of music. The smoking-area was a dismal edge of a parking lot, inaccessible from the front on those nights, and you got to view the typical back yards of an old scrap yard and some random side of a building far away like normal hole-in-the-wall LA spots. Now, Das Bunker has moved to the Catch One on Pico in West LA (Santa Monica to be exact). The ambience has changed from a dark and sinister punk-style club to an inviting playground idea, with two floors and now 3 rooms devoted to industrial beats. Where there was Code, the club in Hully Gully which played mostly club hits with easy-to-dance-to beats and mostly harder synthpop, is now the top floor, which features a disco-style checkerboard floor, dark seats to sit on all over the club, a giant stage, stripper poles placed in random fashion, some seating near the stripper poles, and a huge array of lighting technology up in the rafters. This area is a bit of controversy with those who love the dark, forboding atmosphere and instant gratification of the rythmic noise pumping at you as you walk through the door at the Hully Gully, but I guess times, the did change. The bottom floor is the reason Das Bunker is so unexpected and interesting, IMO. Here is a slightly basement-like quality to the powernoise room door below some narrow stairs. The dancefloor is now covered a lot of the time by an army net (Das Bunker always celebrated the militaristic side of life) or nothing above the dancefloor but a mirror ball and some additional lighting and/or a screen projection of a DVD playing in the background. The resident DJs are placed in a decent spot with plenty of room to dance, though most are quick to grab a drink and stand by the bar more than anything, until a song they know gets played. Last year, they introduced a Retro room, playing some of the DJs' retro-past in the industrial genre; I hardly go in this room because there's no telling what's on half-the-time, but it is another option people enjoy there. The room has a few lights working their way around the room to the beat of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Front Line Assembly, Coil, et al. There are a few other places to do things there. On the bottom floor near the bathrooms are 3 computers set up with internet access (for those obsessed), tables arranged for you to eat some of the nightly tacos that Doomie (an MC/photographer at the club) sometimes makes. The smoking lounge is outdoor, covered by a tarp for rainy occasions. The parking is limited and this club's reputation has been exploded by at least 100% since the Hully Gully days, so you better get there early. Doors open at a decent 10 PM, with cover charge halved until 10:30 PM ($5, $10 after 10:30). And it's 18+, so that might explain a bit of the polar change in music selection and amount of people that show. It's a must-see nightclub in Los Angeles. If you're anywhere near the area I suggest to drive there (I live in San Diego County, so my drive of 100+ miles isn't all that uncommon). Hook up with someone on here and catch a ride if you have to, but don't miss out on a great night at Bunker, BABY! Every Friday night. - Unsubscribed , posted 01/30/07 |

After going to the various goth-esque clubs that have been open and closed and open and closed in LA for the past 2 years, Bunker is my fav. Just to reply to guys post about Amanda Jones~ she Dj's in the retro room (the little one) and in the main room usually on the same night. she's a good Dj. yup. always spins good stuff :) OK about the club.: It's large. No, it's huge! It's in an old dance school or something. The Main room is huge with a bar (not too expensive) it has lots 'o places to sit in the dark and to dance too. They have got a lot better with the cool lights since I started going. Downstairs is not as huge but it's the powernoise room; not usually as packed ~ also the retro room, smoking patio, coat check ,another bar, this little sitting area, the kitchen where sometimes there are tacos, and some computers where you can e-mail your mom while drunk and tell her that you love her. The building itself is a reason to go. Entry is 5$ before 1030 and 10$ after thats pretty damn good for an LA club. it's open till 3am. yes it's 18 and over but i've never noticed a problem with that. Drinks are not "expensive" the music is great. Industrial upstairs powernoise downstairs 'retro' EBM stuff in the little room. which is my fav. not sure why as I never know any of the songs but im learning. Damn I want to go there right now. I might actually. You should too. Thanks ~Tait/Signy/ w/e - Tait , posted 12/08/06 |

Das Bunker is a huge club to accommodate all your stomping moves. Downstairs is the power noize and it is the most wonderful sound you will here. I feel in love with industrial music here. - Raseny , posted 06/16/06 |

I had planned to do a reconnaissance mission on Das Bunker for some time, and since I found myself lone wolfin’ it one night, I knew if it sucked, I’d not have to apologize to anyone accompanying me. I did have concerns, as I do with any 18+ Goth club. Ya’ see, flip the coin and, in Los Angeles, you will get one of the two sides: A- a goth club that looks like they dressed up an east LA high school gymnasium for Halloween, complete with a beer soaked carpet and leather-clad chubby teens sweating through their eye makeup… or… B- a comfortable space, with cozy castle nooks, a little bdsm-play, and a spacious dance floor for gloaming and off balance dancing. I can’t say Das Bunker was the latter, not completely. What I can say is: A is less than B. It had a lot of space, a good spread of DJ’s spinning in 3 different rooms, and lots of “chill areas”. I was there to hear Miss Amanda Jones spin, I found her in the smallest of the three rooms. That was my primary disappointment. I’m sure there’s a good reason for this…but to have the Dark Rose Queen, who owns Hollywood, stuck in a small room in some shabby joint in “Arlington Heights”?…well, it stings a little. - Allan , posted 04/10/06 |

Great industrial, ebm, old skool industrial and powernoize club located at Jewel's Catch One in Koreatown. Every 1st and 3rd Friday djs Rev. John, Franck, Shane and Rekahoe as well as special guests spin. Bands and dj performances are usually once a month. Oldest powernoize club in the United States. Drinks are a little pricey, but strong. Enormous venue. - Morgana , posted 09/10/04 |
