Bad experiences
I tried eating at Fred's a couple times. Both experiences were poor. SO I cannot offer a positive review. Specifically I found that the items I ordered were unedible. THats the long and short of it. I cannot argue with those who had dissimilar experiences. I can only speak from my own experiences. - JOSH , posted 04/25/07

Good for late night
After an exhausting experience dancing late-nite at the Derby, this was always the place for some greasy food, milk shakes, and retro-atmopshere. Service is a bit rough, but if you're nice to them, they're nice to you. Best for late night eats. - Ryan , posted 03/16/07

Unique Spin on Diner Food
Try the tofu chilaquiles and the chocolate malt - with real pieces of crunchy malted milk balls. Yummy! Check out their review on Citysearch: losangeles.citysearch.com/profi...2.html - Erin , posted 11/07/06

Please Stop Conforming To Non-Conformity (What Is Hip)
People. I understand the issues with food and time, but this is a DINER. DINERS are SUPPOSED TO BE DIRTY AND RUDE AND SLOW. I moved here from New York City and finding a place that was not Denny's and open 24/7 in Los Angeles was really difficult. Fred 62 has free refills on coffee and the people are cool if you don't treat them like you are a stuck up fame whore. I go there hungry and I like the food because it is cheap and fills me up for $5. As for the comments about all of the hipsters, people can say the same thing about you because you are on tribe.net, wow...the "progressive"
"open minded" "community oriented" "grassroots" people are just like everyone else in terms of exlcuding others and tearing them down. Not a surprise. High school is over. Live your life. XOXO! - DhaniDarko , posted 09/01/06

Always a good experience
I like Freds 'cause it's open 24/7, it's super close to my house, and I've always had a good experience there. Service can be slowish, but never horrible. I've always enjoyed the food- the juicy lucy burger and chinese chicken salad stand out in my memory. Good trendy diner atmosphere and always interesting people watching. Parking can be tough, though, so be prepared to hunt for parking... - *daisy , posted 07/27/06

Foul Mouthed Busboys
We live in a city where half the population speaks Spanish. Why is it that the busboys at Fred 62 scream profanities at each other and think no one can understand them? It's absurd. - Paul , posted 06/08/06

Great food, lousy service.
I really love the food at Freds. Everything from the mac and cheese balls to the towering sandwiches. The place would be a lot better if the service was quicker. Nothing like waiting 20 minutes to order food. - Unsubscribed , posted 05/13/06

What else are you gonna do in Los Feliz after 2am?
I've been there often as I live in the area. Honestly, I can't agree with the posts about the bad service. When I go which is every once in awhile the service is actually pretty quick but, there's usually a line at the door because there's nothing else going on in Los Feliz in the early AM. Their milk shakes rock and their burgers aren't bad. I don't get any tude from the waiters/waitresses there. - , posted 01/22/06

Trendy and cool but not the place for great food
I agree with most the posts about this joint. I have never had a satisfying experience. a tragicly hip place with hot peops but don't waste your dough. Please. (My friend T**** says she shot there and it was not clean in the kitchen. Just saying...)

yuck
This place has bad service and is overpriced. I wouldn't eat there again. The food was boring. The only redeeming feature is the decor. - Julie , posted 11/04/05

Could be so much better...
Like many places in L.A., this east side eatery is a let down. The place itself is nice, but I could do without the tasteless and loud music. But, more importantly, the hamburger I had was reminiscent of something I might have gotten at a truck stop diner while traveling cross-country. The French fries were brown from being fried in old, old, rancid oil. But, since the waiters working there think that they are doing you a favor by waiting on you, it was not worth pointing that out to them. Don't waste your time. Unless it is four in the morning and your options are slim. - incan , posted 08/31/05

open late. yay.
there are usually way too many people here, and not enough street parking. sometimes the service is terrible, sometimes it's great. but so what. they're open super duper late, and the food is better than denny's. i always get the veggie royale. - harmony , posted 07/30/05

Attitude Magnitude
I've had meals that were very good, and others almost unchokedownable. Cute waitresses will compensate for a lot of shortcomings, but here they're not nearly cute enough. I think it's a Los Feliz deal; go a couple of blocks over to Hillhurst and the food, vibe and karma all improve by a zillion orders of magnitude. - Frederick , posted 06/19/05

Always a lopsided experience...
Sometimes we have the most attentive waiter of all time, sometimes we never see him/her. Sometimes the food is tasty and you wish you had more, sometimes you wish you had more scratch so you could walk up the street to the Electric Lotus. Still, Fred 62s has an interesting menu with what seems like fresh ingrediants. I think they underwent a management shift lately because the quality seems better than usual. It's always a gamble trying this place out! - Sherrie , posted 06/14/05

try the vegetarian pot pie & know the menu.
okay-- it used to be better.

not the veg pot pie, which is still great, but, yep--

side orders were part of the meals, the portions were larger, stuff like that.

i havent had any problem w/ any of the staff & the music, on most nights, is really, really good-- & i am someone who =detests= bad music (cf "the new" jack off-m).

but if you know yr way around the menu, if you have been there enough times to actually look at what theyve got (indeed it has been shortened in recent years, alas), know what is still good, what you like & order it-- it isnt so bad at all.

i like the matzoh brie, for heavens sake. i just wish it were there in the evenings. some of the other stuff -is- still really good.

as for the largely monetary changes-- they probably shouldnt have opened a fred 62-2; i think this tis wherefrom the fallout comes. - °º¤ø edi ø¤º° , posted 04/12/05

Fred 62 sucks
poor service and it's plain diner fare, no biggie! I was so surprised by the disdain I received when I uttered two innocent words "to go". No one wanted to take my order. I would have ordered more but the waiter was such an a-hole, I gave up. I had soup. A way over-priced, small coffee-to-go-type-of-cup of soup. What a joke! Homemade chicken soup, my ass. It was broth for my trouble. What a rip! - downtowngrrrl , posted 04/12/05

fred 62; bets thing about the joint; gorgeous waitressess, i dont know where tthey gettem but each one is more innarresting than the last & watching those fishnets saunter by your booth almost makes the long wait for your food to arrive pleasant
biggest problem i have w/ the joint; they gotta sandwhich named after charles bukowski & for some reason its NOT a ham on rye - stosh , posted 04/09/05

be aware of the menu pricing!
Recently me and some pals ventured over to Fred 62 to mix it up--see HOP review.

The choice was what we could come up with the desires of each of us being grandly different. J** wanted a meal, L*** some tea and I wanted some dessert. Since HOP across the street isn't known for food, we opted for Fred 62. All of our desired were met and I was more than happy to find "malts" on the menu. I'd been here before but never paid for the food--dates ya know. So the trickery in their pricing wasn't something I was familiar with and neither was my friend J**. We received the bill and she was charged for Onion Rings after she was asked while ordering if she would like Onion Rings with her meatloaf, she said yes of course, thinking it was part of the meal's side orders like most restaurants--but alas it was not. We encouraged her to speak up and she did. The waiter then said that it wasn't part of the meal and we all chimed in stating it isn't stated on the menu and then he took the check and we waited almost 30 minutes for the check to be corrected and another 10 to pay it! Service not so great and watch those sixty-two cent patterns. - Deb , posted 04/08/05

Besides the fries, the food is just so-so.
If you want to see self called "hipsters," this is the place to be. It is open 24 hours which is nice. - onlineZenbobway , posted 03/25/05

It's cool, but the food's weak. Portions are small, so it's great if you want to lose weight, but don't feel like doing that binge and purge routine after eating at a restaurant with food you REALLY like. - John , posted 03/22/05

What happened?
I used to live in Los Feliz and went to fred's quite often. I always got a good meal and really enjoyed myself. I decided to go last night after not having been in a few months. What a disappointment! They have changed the menu, and removed some of my favorite things, and it seems there are less vegetarian options now. The food we got was dull and mediocre and the music was loud and SUPER annoying. It was hard to carry on a conversation. Here's the kicker: I ordered a chocolate souffle for dessert (I've always thought fred's had awesome dessert!) and when it came, it was bread. Chunks of hot bread soaked in watery chocolate sauce. Sort of like chocolate bread pudding, only not as good. Did they hink I wouldn't notice that it was bread???
So, I won't be going back there any time soon. Just so you don't think I'm some crotchety complainer, I eat out all the time, and usually enjoy myself. A restaurant has to do a really bad job to make me unhappy.
Has anyone else been there recently? Was my expereience out of the ordinary?
This used to be one of my favorite places, I'm so sad! - Mrs. Delta , posted 11/19/04

American all-night restaurant on Vermont
Good star sightings, tacky Americana/hipster decor, eclectic music, foxy waitstaff. Excellent burgers and salads, huge refillable drinks, ...not the cheapest place to eat, but perfect for 4 or 5 people in the middle of the night, or hungover on a Saturday morning. - Dana , posted 09/01/04

Great 24-hour restaurant in Los Feliz
Fred 62 is a great place any time of the day or night. Far better than most 24-hour places. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, reasonable prices, friendly staff. There's sometimes a wait for breakfast on weekends, or during busy nightlife hours. Close to Los Feliz theatre and Skylight Books, which is a great bonus. Try the Bearded Mr. Frenchy for a special treat! - Max , posted 08/31/04

Open late, for late night munchies
Fred 62 has great neo-classical diner atmosphere with (usually) a great soundtrack playing in the background. Here, you can get comfort food like chili fries and burgers, and try their "Apple Punk Tart" (a la mode, if possible). There's indoor and outdoor seating, and street parking if you're lucky. - Max , posted 08/30/04
