best used bookstore ever
i live near illiad and i've had to buy a second bookcase to contain all the books i've gotten from there. paperbacks are generally half off or less, with an excellent sci-fi and fantasy section. the bargain areas are split into really cheap books (generally $1-3), cheap books (around $10) and theres a lot of stuff in both areas. they have a lot of art books and entertainment related books, graphic novels.. as well as 2 really friendly fluffy grey cats that you can pet =) the inventory changes all the time. the owners are really nice too =) - pinguino , posted 01/17/05

Great Independent Used Bookshop
This is a fantastic used bookshop. It's in North Hollywood and has been there for years. It's run by a kind of beat/hippie group of bibliophiles that are always knowledgable and helpful.

The shop always has a good influx of used books so it isn't some atrophying book catacombs. You can always return and find new gems that have shifted their way back into the public eye.

Couches are provided and encourage book browsing & reading. There is a grate selection of art and photography books. The store has a computer data base [staff operated] so titles can be searched with some degree of efficiency. - Ranxerox , posted 09/04/04

Used Bookstore Has Everything
The best used bookstore in LA (better than Duttons's, even!) has copies of everything and they're pretty well organized, so while you'll still be browsing around for hours, at least it's not the hopeless morass that some stores are. There's even cats and couches if you want to curl up and stay awhile. - Sam , posted 09/03/04

Bibliophile Mecca
4820 Vineland Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91601. The storefront, a striking mural of figures from literature and music, is almost worth the trip itself but inside is where the real treasure lies. This locally-owned shop is Mecca for the bibliophile and has items that you thought you'd might never see again (Edward Gorey fans, get thee to this fine place now!) From literature, to poetry, comic books, research books, music and scripts, this seemingly tiny place goes on and on and it's easy to get lost in the labyrinth of shelves and stacks. Not in the mood to spend? Look through the boxes of free books outside their front doors and see if you don't find at least one article of interest. Shop hours: 10a-10p, Monday thru Saturday and 12p-6p on Sunday or call: 818.509.2665 - Donut , posted 09/03/04
