Hmmm, come on now.
Let me start by saying I love raw food. I have been a raw vegan for awhile now and I have wanted to check out Juliano's Raw for quite some time but I have to tell you that I had the worst dining experience there on my birthday.
I started by letting my server know that I have a brazil nut alergy and requested confirmation that what I was ordering was going to be safe for me to eat.
We waited for 45 min. or more for our food to arrive..that's cool. The presentation was lame...o.k, that's cool. The very FIRST bite I took had brazil nuts in it!! Now wait...didn't I ask?
When I flagged the waitress she said they had a new chef??! O.k so accidents happen but don't they know that nut allergies can be life threatening? (it turns out though that at the back of the menu there was a no nut menu! The waitress never mentioned that...I mean the menu IS a novella).
During all of this Juliano is sitting no more than ten feet away from us. What I see when the waitress asks him about the nuts was some smart ass reaction to what he was being told. When he noticed I was watching he stood turned his back and continued his tantrum.
Now I worked in restaurants for many years and I have to tell you that I am always beyond kind to the staff and always patient when I'm waiting for my food but his reaction to being told that a patron was having an allergic reaction in his restaurant was apalling.
I never even got an apology, nothing.
First the food wasn't that impressive. The presentation was terrible and the decor was boring...the prices rediculous!
I think his head has gotten a bit big...I must say though that his recipe book IS wonderful. I recomend you buy the book and skip the restaurant...the book is cheaper.
Namaste,
L
