Worst Dentist Experience
Dear Friends and Readers,
I write this review a few hours after having one of the worst experiences at a dentist ever. Of course most dentist experiences are not exactly good, but this particular experience made me so upset I felt the need to share it with as many people as possible.
Last week I had a root canal peformed, which went pretty well considering. I also have a pretty difficult to deal with gag reflex, which the doctor acknoledged and it was somewhat of an issue while they worked on me. When they finished the doctor recomended giving me Halcyon (a sedative) and that should help with the gag reflex and relax me during any procedures that needed to be done. I agreed that I would welcome any help. An appt was made for Monday 031207, and these events took place the thursday before.
So today I go in to see the dentist and have a crown done, which is typically the second half of a root canal. The dentist (Thomas Wu) and his assistant prepped me for the procedure. During the prep I reexplained my gag reflex issue, and reiterated the conversation I had with the previous doctore regarding Nitrous and Halcyon, I have been given both in the past to help with my gag reflex and it ALWAYS helps. Although some doctors wont' administer it, or do not have it available, it was available and actually sitting in the room I was being prepped in. I asked for nitrous to help with my gag reflex as I was already having issues with the prep and dental damn, and they told me it would be 250 extra dollars. At first I told them I couldn't afford it, but when they attempted to work on me again, I had more issues with my gag reflex, so I again asked for the gas. At this time they left the room, left me hangin there for what seemed like a long time, and when they came back, they informed me they would be unable to perform the procedure. At this time I am already very numb from the novacaine, and I have lost a half of my work day. The dentist informed me that he was afraid he would be unable to finisht he procedure given my gag reflex, and he didn't feel that the nitrous or halcyon would help, although I reminded him that is how I have had the majority of my dental work done. He again refused to do the work, and essentially told me he couldnt' do anything for me. I wasn't offered any sort of referral or given a reason other than he didn't feel comfortable working on me. So I left the office after some pretty nasty words with the doctor and the person at the front desk. I now have to take off the majority of the day tomorrow and again go through the same procedure with another doctor. Which means more lost work.
I write this becuase I want to make sure that my voice is heard, becuase I would hate to see anyone else go through this experience.
