Memphis is beyond the hip for the entire hipster to congregate in Costa Mesa on the weekdays. Despite all that I still love Memphis for the amazing soul food and Flintstone like decor. They have live jazz on certain nights that give the place more character to its name. - Raseny , posted 06/16/06 |

Strange David Lynch vibe to the place which I like - somehow combines the lazy catlike Egyptian Memphis I dream of with the memphis of American soul. The gumbo is what every one goes there for - but they do have some vegitarian stuff - portebello sandwiches, garden burgers, etc. Great fries & fried onion stuff. All the salads come with some weird raseberry vinegrette dressing. Menu actually encourages martini's for lunch... But I am not sure how soulful the food is? My vision of soul food is Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles - and this is not that. Also, the music selection is shitty. Lots of like K-RTH style proto hippie rock - when they should be playing Ike & Tina hits. there is good parking in front. - given , posted 02/09/05 |

The Santa Ana location is nicer and larger than the crowded Costa Mesa location. Both offer good food at resonable prices. Don't miss the cheesecake! - D. , posted 09/29/04 |
