I love Sphongle....
A friend of mine burned this CD for me about a year ago, and I must say it is one of my favorites. I can't begin to tell you how many spiritual journey's I've had listening to this album ~ from hiking up the mountain in my backyard to dancing in my room, imagining I am underneath the full moon somewhere. And not to raise the hair on your heads, but the "When shall I be free" track is actually one of my favorites. Reminds me of the times when my soul-sister Emily and I would bust out our beginner level belly dancing moves, flowing with the beautiful, melodic, middle eastern flare that this track has to offer. I guess it all depends on the level in which you choose to ride it. We love it! Sphongle will actually be performing this August at the Shambhala music festival up in Canada. I hope to be there, and I hope you all can try to make it too. Check it out: shambhalamusicfestival.com

Much love and dancealicious grooves,

poop
cause i make music myself i can appriciate more than just the layout of sounds but also the quality and detailness of the whole album...

i mean if this was the first shpongle album everyone would be all hyped about how perfect it is, but i think many are just comparing it to the previous ones...

and i honestly think the only way to really ven grasp posford is to take your awareness to another level.. with or without help ;)

i´ve had lifechanging experienced during the "Divine moments or truth" track for well actually the whole first album, but the peak was at that track... it was for sure a divine moment.... not even gonna try to explain anything :)

anyways, before you discard for example "when shall i be free" try it under other circumstances....

quote:
"The rest of the lyrics in that track sound like they we're written by his 14 year old cousin just beggining to dabble in Buhhdist philosophy (Buhhdism for Dummies?)"

something i´ve learned is that it doesn´t matter how much knowledge you think u might have on simple things like what she sings about, you cannot put it to use until you actually have AWARENESS of that knowlegde..
simple things are usually the most effective... awareness is NOT complex at all.. creation is SUPERSIMPLE and binary, why should we take ourselves so seriously and make it sound complex??

If you like "Tales Of The Inexpressible" you'll like this......
....because it's the same album recycled.
"Are You Shpongled?" (the 1st LP) was quite different from "Tales.....".
There was no musical growth whatsoever between the 2nd and 3rd albums.
and yes, "When Shall I Be Free" is irritating as fuck!

Something far more "trippy" because it achieves it's effect with minimalism rather than beating you over the head with it's I'm-as-psychedelic-as-psychedelic-can-be-ness is the new mix by Richie Hawtin, which is also available in a 5.1 surround mix! Can't wait to hear it in that format.

My 2¢. Don't spend it all in one place. - Myke has made his... , posted 05/19/06

aargh.
for full effect, please play this from a shitty car stereo soundsystem at any outdoor party the minute the main soundsystem is turned off. surround the car with cracked-out israelis, plus optional tank of nitrous. please make sure that this is the only album in your music collection with an average BPM below 145 (well, except for the Jorge Zamfir and Yanni CD's you keep stashed under your bed for when nobody else is around). Simon Posford, he is being the genius, yes?

i give it 2 stars because everything's relative, and it's not quite as awful as 'tales of the inexpressible'. also, nice cover art. it's nice to see mark neal is still putting out awesome graphics. - onlinedavid , posted 05/19/06

Genius...except
I agree mostly, it is an awesome album. Except, I have to give it a 4 instead of a 5 because there is about 60 seconds of the album that is absolutely intolerable. The very end of the "when shall I be free track." Its not just uninspired, its horribly grating, its so horrible that it actually does warrant a subtraction of 1 star. The rest of the lyrics in that track sound like they we're written by his 14 year old cousin just beggining to dabble in Buhhdist philosophy (Buhhdism for Dummies?), but its tolerable.

But the rest of the album is genius. - Brentt , posted 05/19/06

One of the craziest.....
I listen to this often. makes me feel like im in the desert.
Lots of sounds, not minimalistic, but definitely atmospheric.
ranges from heavy and 'out there' to beautiful and feminine.
Great after party stuff
Or driving thru nevada on hwy 50 stuff.
One of a kind!

multiple eargasms!!!
Last night i premiered this cd on my audiophile sound gear and was absolutely blown away by the sheer genius, brilliance and complexity of this music. my ears heard sounds and compositions i never thought possible. total body synestheasia took me on a journey of images, feelings and thoughts, inspired by this mind expanding concert. i highly reccommend this experience. it was so good i had to play it again and this time drum and dance and hoop to it. this is my new favorite music experience ever.

if there are any shpongle loving audiophiles friends out there that want to schedule an appointment to have this experience, just drop me a line... i'll be listening to it many many more times in the months to come. - Rafael0 is in SF , posted 05/17/06
