Somis Market has the most amazing mexican food... I recently left the so. cal area and miss this place the most! I used to go on a regual basis with my family. Not much of a looker... mint green shack, but all apart of the experience. Would recommend to anyone! - Beth , posted 07/05/06 |

Somis Market is the best Mexican food in Ventura County. People swarm the place from miles around every weekday at lunch; you'll see businessmen in coat and tie standing in line with local farmers in boots and hat. This is authentic Mexican food, with no fancy presentation. The market itself is a real local convenience store, grafted onto a small kitchen and space for 8 tables. You stand in line to order, and then pick up a soda from the cooler before finding any table that's available. I recommend the crunchy tacos, any of the great burritos (the Colorado and chile verde are particularly good) and the chimichanga, which is a deep-fried burrito with your choice of meat inside and sour cream, cheese and tomatoes on top. It's all excellent. Get there earlier, rather than later, as this is a small-town establishment and they don't keep late hours. - Elliot , posted 09/30/04 |
