no expectations
Like my first listen to Smile, I had no expectations. I had picked it up from the library on a whim. This movie, a cool co-worker lent me and I figured watching it would give us one more thing to talk about come Monday. VERY good. Ralph Fiennes makes intelligence and diplomacy sexy. And watching him break down moved me much in the same way as the good old days of watching Harold blubbering in the hospital. The movie has the educational and expository aspects (I think) of a documentary without making you feel like you're in a classroom, suspense without lots of car wrecks and shootouts, romance to make you believe, and brief (too brief) scenes of Africa set to good music a la Baraka. Great movie.

But like I said, I had no idea what I was getting myself into -- no expecations. And now you might! So forget I said anything. - ann , posted 02/13/06

Brillant landscape shots and excellent writing
The Constant Gardener is was just what i expected - tragic beauty. Filmed entirely on location in South Africa, the movie is full of breathtaking cinematography and heartwrenching shots of the poverty that grips Africa.

Well worth the money... - Carol , posted 09/07/05
