A mediocre rendition of a fine New Orleans restaurant.
I have to say this was a very mixed experience for me. The Po' Boys, (oyster and shrimp, dressed) were well done, the crunchy deep fried seafood on soft french rolls with mayo and shredded lettuce are quite like I remember.

I am not at all sure what the odd slices of lemon on the Po' boy were for, but hey its California.

Now the Gumbo Ya Ya, (this is the lynch pin of your restaurant, can't do a good gumbo...shouldn't say you are a creole restaurant) I found the broth to be flaccid and the seafood flavors muted and flabby. Now I have had gumbo in storyville and at Mother's, I have eaten Gumbo at the original gumbo pot on Royal, and this was not it.

Last but not least the Muffalatta, this is a very hard sandwitch to attempt, and the Gumbo Pot, is very brave for doing it. Their olive salad is pureed and not chunky at all, and the Muff itself is weird, but the flavor is okay.

All in all, the gumbo pot is kinda like looking at a photo of gumbo....All the right shapes, but as for their gumbo none of the flavor. - M , posted 11/04/04

Great Gumbo, Po'Boys and other Cajun/Creole
The Gumbo Pot is but one of the famous eateries contained within the Farmer's Market at Fairfax & 3rd, but it stands out as one of my favorite spots to pick up a reminder of New Orleans fare. I'm hooked on their blackened red snapper po'boy, the red beans & rice, and the gumbo itself, and usually combine several dashes from each of the New Orleans hot sauces dotted about the counter. Inexpensive, and they can also make huge batches for your next party. - Polarbeast , posted 09/03/04
