This is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in all of LA. Please understand that this is quite a compliment given that LA is blessed with some fabulous sushi restaurants from the famous to the hole in the wall. This one is definitely on the high end and can get pricey especially if you order lots of sake and sashimi like I can be known to do... but it is well worth it. The food is outstanding, the service impeccable and the atmosphere is lovely and unique. Set on the runway at the Santa Monica airport above Typhoon (same owner), the restaurant has some of the best sushi chefs around. Although, I'm sad to say that my favorite (Fuji) has now left... :( Although this restaurant would be considered the same caliber as Matsuhisa and Sushi Roku, it is far better than either of those places... yet it remains unsnobby. I've been known to see a celebrity or two here on more than a random occasion as well, if you get excited by that sort of thing. They are open for lunch and dinner and accept reservations for tables, not the sushi bar. If going on a Friday or Saturday night without a reservation, expect a bit of a wait to sit at the sushi bar (my personal preference), but fear not, you can enjoy a wonderful cocktail at Typhoon below while you are waiting. - Kimmee , posted 09/18/06 |
